Laurie Hanahan is the assistant commander, training officer and an HRE evaluator for the TrotSAR Mounted Team. She has been a Virginia resident for over 15 years and currently lives in Fauquier County. Joining the team in early 2008, she obtained her SAR Tech II and Mounted SARTECH III/instructor certifications from the National Association of Search and Rescue, as well as Virginia STM, Wilderness First Aid, and Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue. Her past and current volunteer efforts include leadership in girl scouts, volunteering at a therapeutic riding center, and coordinating public trail riding events. She is also a pet assisted therapy volunteer visiting hospitals, physical rehabilitation clinics and nursing homes with her Doberman pinschers as well as providing pet education sessions to elementary schools. She was certified as an emergency animal rescue volunteer for disaster situations.
