Ashley Lewis

Ashley joined her first search and rescue (SAR) group in 2011 and is currently a member of 5 SAR agencies across the Commonwealth of Virginia and in surrounding states. She is an Adjunct Instructor with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM), Training Officer for the Southwest Virginia Mountain Rescue Group and is a VDEM certified Search Team Instructor, Tracking Technician, Management Team Member and Search Team Leader. She holds an M.S. in Geography from Virginia Tech and both Track and Sign Level III and Trailing Level III certifications through CyberTracker North America.

Ashley has instructed search and rescue courses for VDEM since 2014. As an Adjunct Instructor, she specializes in teaching tracking, awareness, land navigation, lost person behavior and other basic SAR skills to law enforcement, first responders, and professional SAR volunteers. When she is not teaching or developing curriculum for VDEM courses she is an Assistant Instructor for tracking and land navigation courses with Natural Awareness Tracking School, and a GIS Analyst for dbS Productions, which specializes in search and rescue research and publications.
